Painting Your Small House's Exterior

When it comes to painting the exterior of your house, there is so much more for you to take into consideration than colors you like. If you have a small home, then you may want to choose a paint color combination that helps your home have the look and feel of it being larger than it really is. When it comes to choosing the colors for your small home, consider the following colors to achieve that larger feel.

Understanding the basics of exterior painting

Before you commit to colors, you want to keep in mind that you can have a lighter or a darker color go for the main walls, then one or the other for the trim. If you go light with the home, go dark with the trim and vice versa.

Choosing colors to make your home look bigger

Since your home is small and you have a goal of wanting to help it have the appearance of a larger home, you need paint colors that help you to play tricks on people's eyes.

Black and white – Painting the exterior walls of your home white and the trim and frames black can help to make a house appear bigger than it really is.  When you choose white for the exterior walls, it will make them look as if they are expanded. Doing the trim and frames in black will be a nice contrast against the white.

One thing to think about is the white of your home can stay great looking for a long time. However, you may find that you have to have the black touched up every now and again because it will become lighter due to the sun hitting it each day and slowly bleaching it.

You can also paint the front door in a completely different color if you want, and this one thing won't take away from the feel of the home being bigger than it is. Some people like to go with red front doors when their homes are white with black trim.

Blue and white – While dark blues are too heavy for small homes and will only make them look even smaller, lighter shades of blue with white trim, frames, and shutters can have the opposite effect and help the house look larger than it really is.

Going with blue has another great benefit to bring you, and that is that a blue house isn't going to show dust and dirt as easily as a home that is painted white.

Earth tones – You can have your home painted with Earth tones that go with their surroundings, and this can help make the home look bigger because the eye will see a sage green house surrounded by green trees and the eye will be tricked into thinking they are seeing a bigger house than they really are.

Now that you know how to pick the right colors to paint your home, you want to contact a painter from a company like Imhoff Fine Residential Painting to come out and give you an estimate on what the project costs and when they can have it done for you.
