Encapping: Do You Need It for Your Dirty Carpets?

Posted on: 10 November 2021

If your carpets stay dirty, grimy, or smelly, even after you clean them, encap your carpets soon. This process uses special cleaning solutions and methods to break down heavy residue in carpets, rugs, and other types of fabrics. Learn more about your dirty carpets and why they need encapsulation services below.

Why Is It Hard to Clean Your Carpets?

Carpets, rugs, and other floor coverings can get soiled very quickly throughout the year, especially in places where foot traffic is heavy. If you don't use the proper cleaning solutions on your carpets, they can become smelly, heavily soiled, and even unhealthy to sit on.

Manufacturers bind carpet fibers together through a process called looping. Looping creates piles, which attach directly to the backings of your carpets. Once dirt, muddy water, and germs penetrate the piles of your carpets, they become too soiled to clean with ordinary cleaning solutions.

Ordinary solutions may not have the power to loosen up and pull away deep-seated debris. However, a technique called encapping can clean heavily soiled carpets and keep them that way.

How Does Encapping Work?

Encapping cleans carpets through a process called encapsulation. Encapsulation requires carpet cleaners to apply a specialized solution to the surfaces of your carpets. Using a tool called an agitator, cleaners gently work the solution into the carpets' fibers until it breaks down the debris coating them.

Cleaners may also use other tools to encap your carpets, including oscillating pads and rotary brushes. The tools dislodge and remove debris from the carpets' piles and backings. Some carpet cleaners also use auxiliary cleansers to remove deep-seated debris from your flooring.

Encapping makes it easier for you to keep your carpets clean throughout the year. Encapped carpets tend to be softer and more pliable after cleaning. Most homeowners only need to vacuum their carpets to keep them clean. If you need to know more about maintaining your freshly cleaned flooring, speak to a company or contractor right away.

You'll need to encap your carpets in the future. A cleaning company or contractor will discuss the best times to encap your flooring after they complete the initial cleaning. You may be able to receive reminder emails, phone calls, or texts from the company or contractor who cleans your carpets.
